Ian Holm talked to the Telegraph and expressed his bewilderment to Tim Walker at not having heard from the producers of The Hobbit for a while now. There have been more than enough rumours about him reprising the part of an older Bilbo Baggins in the two part film venture of The Hobbit, the younger counterpart being, of course, Martin Freeman.
Ian Holm reminisced, “I had great fun playing Baggins in the first two films,” and added, “the plan had been, with Martin Freeman playing Young Baggins, I would be the Old Baggins,” he adds further, “I suppose the earthquake in Christchurch couldn’t have helped with communications.”
Sophie de Stempel, Sir Ian’s wife, was reported saying, “I worry that the film has run into so much bad luck that they might have missed their chance altogether.”
Fans all over have been looking forward to the confirmation of the rumour of his casting. But talks it seems have been put on hold.
“I don’t know what’s happening,” the 79-year-old actor admitted, “I haven’t heard anything for weeks.”
